Introduction

Who needs speech therapy?

Speech therapy services are beneficial for individuals experiencing a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties. This includes:

Children with speech and language delays or disorders, such as articulation disorders, language disorders, stuttering, or developmental delays.
Individuals with neurological conditions affecting speech and language, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, or dementia.
People with voice disorders, such as vocal nodules, polyps, or vocal cord paralysis.
Those experiencing swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) due to conditions such as stroke, head and neck cancer, or neurological disorders.

Who Provides Speech Therapy Services:

Speech therapy services are provided by licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Team of Speech Therapy:

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs): Primary professionals responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders.
Audiologists: Experts in diagnosing and treating hearing disorders, who may collaborate with SLPs for individuals with combined hearing and speech/language issues.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physical Therapists (PTs): Collaborate with SLPs in cases where individuals have motor or sensory impairments affecting speech and swallowing function.
Physicians and Specialists: Medical professionals who may refer individuals to speech therapy and collaborate with SLPs in managing underlying medical conditions impacting communication and swallowing.
