WHAT IS SPEECH-LANGUAGE THERAPY/PATHOLOGY
A Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.
We endeavor to provide assessment and treatment to the entire spectrum of verbal communication disorders through all age groups of children and adults deserving our attention within Pakistan and beyond. Therefore we lay emphasis on clinical training of our students from the first year through to final year, along with their studies in the eight modules of speech pathology, language pathology, linguistics, biological and medical sciences, psychology, audiology, research methodology and clinical procedures. Graduation is followed by a year of clinical internship. Having a custom built campus catering to the realm of speech language therapy, we believe in imparting knowledge and skill to our students that is at par with any institution of our kind across the globe. Our commitment to excellence is manifest in our regular indulgence in continuing professional development, of our faculty. Our mission to establish evidence based practice, through research is a goal we endeavor to achieve through our faculty, consultants and students, engaging actively in research.
AFFILIATION OF COURSE
It is a great honor and pride for the HHIRS to hold this course for the first time in Khyber pakhtunkhwa under the auspicious affiliation of Riphah International University Islamabad. We have highly skilled staff with a range of clinical backgrounds, involvement with professional boards and committees, national and international conference presentations and accreditation with the Higher Education Academy Board.
- Minimum requirement ‘A’ Levels / Intermediate students of all disciplines
- Minimum aggregate marks of 55%
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Matriculation in science or with biology is a Prerequisite for students from a non-pre-medical background:
- (A ‘ 0 ‘ semester shall be held as a foundation course in Biological Sciences for applicants from a non-pre-med background)
- Commitment towards a helping profession.
- BS/M.Sc. Behavioral Sciences,
- BS/MSc (Health & Medical Sciences),
- 4 year Bachelor/MA Social & management sciences or equivalent qualification from any HEC recognized university minimum unadjusted 50% marks.
CAREERS IN SPEECH & LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY
The fields of Speech – Language Pathology and Audiology remained neglected here, so far. Our students graduating from the college are the torch bearers of these professions in Pakistan and are able to provide their valuable services in a multitude of settings, working collaboratively with ENT specialists, neurologists, pediatricians, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists in hospitals, and rehabilitation units. They can also work at schools or have their private practices
MARKET TRENDS IN SLP
The profession continues to grow for a variety of reasons, including the rapid increase in aging populations, medical advances that improve the survival rate of preterm infants as well as trauma and stroke patients, growth in elementary- and secondary-school enrollments, and increasing demand in health care and private practice settings.
